Why do parents buy their teenagers new cars?

new parents

Everyone know that teenagers have a high risk of being involved in accidents. And yet I see parents (in my line of work), all the time, buying their teenagers new cars. Do they not mind throwing the money away? How about making the kid get a job to earn their car. They might drive more carefully if they’ve worked for the car.

I’d especially like to hear from parents who have bought their teen a brand new car.

It would have been nice if my parents bought me a car but they didn’t. I think that a teen should get out and work for it and not have it just handed to them.

I would not allow my kid to drive all hours of the day and night, i would limit that if and when my son gets a car on his own or i half help him too.

  2. i know i **** how teenagers are like im such a tough kid and their parents buy em a rly nice car after another
    its just fucked up

I dunno, my moms buying me a
56,000 dollar Lexus once I get my license in a
    couple months.
She likes to spoil me with materialistic things.
Maybe cause parents can afford it?

EDIT- Actually, I just rechecked and its 62 grand instead of 56 grand.
Oh well, its nice if kids can have a nice car.

  4. The kids are spoiled these days.
I don’t even want a new car, due to the fact that I know i’ll get into a few mishaps.
I wouldn’t want them to spend any money on a new car for me until I became more skilled at driving & I got used to being behind the wheel.

Most parents don’t buy their teens a new car. Sometimes they may help them get a cheap used car that they deem dependable and they may actually buy the car for them or give them some money toward it but I think that when a teen gets a car they should atleast help pay for it. I know my mom would have gladly bought me a car if i got my license at 16 just to know it was a safe car but I would have helped pay for it because with all that parents do for their children over the years by the time the child is 16 the child should want to help out. I think that if a teens is given a car then they should have to have a part-time job to pay for the insurance and gas for the car but of course some parents just prefer to do the stuff for their children. I know my boyfriend keeps talking about if his 16 year old every gets his license he wants to buy him a used car for about $3000 but I don’t think his son deserves a car bought for him but only time will tell.

  6. my parents bought me a 06 scion xb for my 18th.
they had just sold their mercedes and bought a bigger car for a lot less and they had the extra money so the figured since i’ve done such a great job in school, i’m getting college paid for through scholarships and all that, that they’d buy it for me. i’m a really responsible teen and im really grateful for that car. i drive carefully just for sake that i don’t want to put myself or any of my passangers in danger. i lost a classmate this year in a car accident. i don’t need to work for a car to have respect for it, my parents, or to determine my driving skills.

  7. When I got my licence, my parents made me save up and buy my own car. I paid $3000 all by myself, borrowed $500 off dad and paid every cent of it back. At the time I thought it was a little unfair but now I am a parent, I can definately say that when the time comes, my children will be financing their own cars also. I see now where my parents were coming from.

lol i have always wondered the same thing..im not a parent nor a teen that has got a new car mine is an OLD rabbit car and i got it for free lol
but i seriously am wondering the same thing you are

  9. My dad bought me one so I can help out with picking up my little sister.

  10. When my girls were teenagers, I couldn’t afford to buy them a new car, a car, or even a car for myself, we public transporationed it. My daughters got cars after they had jobs and could afford to pay for them - their selves. Now if I had been able to do such a thing, I don’t believe that I would have, I am a strong advocate for older children to earn their way. The thing is that anything not worked for, isn’t cherished as much. God Bless.

  11. I’m 15 and will be 16 in December. I know already that I’m getting a car, and I get to pick it myself, but I also know I will get the job of driving my 3 little sisters around town. Yes, I’m spoiled, but I’m not proud of it.

  12. Well before you go blameing the parents and the teens. You should (if you work in the care industry) have realised by now that teens are iresponsible drivers due to lack of experience therefore prone to have more accidents. Now if a fresh new 16 year old is in a 20 year old toyota carona and has a head on, then theres not much safety there and there care and the human are preety much totaled. Yet if the inexperienced teen is in a new toyota echo(up to date with safety standards) then there alot less at risk of indangering there lives. Thats what the parents are thinking!!!!!

Ohh and theres also somehting called comprehensive insurance.

i agree with you. these kids need to start working for things, that way they will appricate them more. the parents might just want the kids to be “cool” and by getting new car everyone will like them.

STOP BUYING CARS FOR YOUR TEENAGERS!!!

  14. I honestly don’t know..it’s really ridiculous to buy teens a brand new car. A girl in 9th grade at my school was given a brand new Lexus SUV by her parents..and her and her friends love to take pictures of themselves in the car because they can drive and it makes them better than everyone else. I’ll just laugh when she has a wreck, I’m sorry, but it’s really ridiculous.

  15. i’ll be 16 this november. i have to buy my own car. my mom will let me drive hers while learning and maybe awhile after i get my license, but she isn’t buying me a new or used one. i have to do that myself.

Well, I guess it’s their life, not my concern. If I had kids I wouldn’t wanna buy them an expensive new car though.

  17. well if the kid deserves it then why not?
